Review – Jesus is God (1-5)
Equal with the Father (Rom. 1:18-32; Col. 1:15-17)
Creator – involved in making everything
Glory = Righteous, Good, & True Character
Eternal – past, present, future (Psa. 90:2)
Powerful – (Isa. 40:28)
Distinct from the Father (Col. 1:15)
Possessing (4-5)
Life, original, unborrowed, underived
Light = revealed truth (Gen. 1:3; John 8:12)
The Light of men
Cannot be extinguished – only rejected

========================

Light inspires faith (6-13)
God sends messengers of light (6-8)
They are not that Light– don’t worship (Col. 2:18)
They witness to that Light – don’t hinder them
They inspire faith in Jesus – believe their message
Jesus was/is that True Light (Gen. 1:3)
He lights every human born (John 3:19; Rom. 12:3)
The world did not recognize him as God (Isa. 53:2)
People prefer darkness – deeds are evil (John 3:19)

===========================

By faith some receive him as the True Light (12-13)
They are counted as children of God
They believe he is God in character & nature
The Holy Spirit gives new birth (John 3:5-6)
Not by human effort
Not by human decision
Not by parents’ desire

==========================

God became man (14)
Jesus, the eternal Word, became flesh
he remained God
his physical, mental, & moral powers were weak
Jesus was born sinless in nature (glory)
A spotless Lamb (1 Pet. 1:19)
Who knew no sin (action, nature (2 Cor. 5:21)
Gabriel called him that “Holy Thing” (Luke 1:35)
Devils called him that “Holy One” (Luke 4:34)
Jesus distinguished his nature (Matt. 7:11)
Jesus = only begotten = Preeminent (Heb. 11:17)
Jesus – full of grace & truth- men saw (John 14:6)
grace considered better than they deserve
Jesus is the Truth about God & about mankind

=============================

We receive from Him (15-18)
John declared:
Jesus to be pre-eminent (15)
Jesus to be pre-existent (15)
That we all receive from Jesus’ work (16)
Sun and rain (Matt. 5:45)
Bread and water (Ex. 23:25)
Life and breath (Acts 17:25)
Grace to those who receive it (James 4:6)
Law came through Moses (Rom. 5:20) (17)
Grace & truth were revealed visibly (17)
through Jesus
not by human inheritance
Jesus reveals the Father’s character (John 10:30) (18)

===========================

Conclusions:
A. Jesus was God from all eternity: life, light, love, and
righteousness!
B. If we accept by faith alone the Light which illumines every
person, we become children of God and are born again by the
Holy Spirit!
C. By his perfectly sinless human nature and spotless life in our
degenerate physical, mental, & moral condition Jesus purchased
the grace of life’s blessings and the offer of eternal life for all!
