Summary of John 4:27-43

The disciples return and are surprised to find Jesus speaking with a Samaritan woman. Men did not talk to women in those days. Jesus was trying to breakdown these barriers.

The woman leaves her water jar and goes back to her town, telling the people that Jesus may be the Messiah because He revealed details of her life. Why did she leave her water pot. She just found out a very import thing about Jesus being the Messiah, she had to tell others in Samaria. The first true missionary!

Many Samaritans come out to see Jesus as a result of her testimony.

Meanwhile, Jesus teaches His disciples that His true nourishment is doing the will of God and completing His work. He explains that the time is ripe for spiritual harvest and that they are entering into work others have already begun. The disciples are encouraged to recognize their role in God’s mission.

The Samaritans urge Jesus to stay with them, and He remains for two days. During that time, many more believe—not only because of the woman’s testimony, but because they hear Jesus for themselves. They acknowledge Him as the Savior of the world, showing that salvation through Christ is for all people, not only the Jews. Jesus also taught the disciples to cross the barriers and reach out to the Samaritans. What a great transformation occurred with the disciples.
