Summary of John 2:12-15

After attending the wedding in Cana, Jesus goes to Capernaum for a short stay with His mother, brothers, and disciples. He then travels to Jerusalem for the Passover. There, He drives out the merchants and money changers from the temple, condemning the commercialization of God’s house and declaring it a place meant for worship, not profit. This act fulfills Scripture about zeal for God’s house.

When challenged by the Jewish leaders to prove His authority, Jesus speaks of destroying “this temple” and raising it in three days—referring not to the physical building, but to His body and His future resurrection. At the time, this meaning is misunderstood, but after His resurrection, the disciples recall and believe His words.

During the Passover, many people believe in Jesus because of the signs He performs. However, Jesus does not fully entrust Himself to them, knowing the human heart and understanding that their faith is often based on signs rather than true commitment.
