“Study of John 1:19-23”
Presented by Oscar Ortega
The first three gospels focus on what Jesus taught and did. John focused more on who Jesus is.
John 1: 19-23
A voice in the wilderness – Preparing the way for the Messiah.
John the Baptist was very clear that he was not the Messiah nor a prophet – But a forerunner – preparing the way for the Lord.
Important question to think about – How many of us today lift up the name of Jesus? Or do we lift up the name of other human beings?
John 1:24-29
At the dawn of Jesus ministry, John the Baptist declares Jesus to be the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. He presented Him as the sacrificial lamb.
The question on baptism came up – John focused on Jesus and that He will baptize you with Holy Spirit. Again describing Jesus to be greater.
John 1:32-39
John the Baptist made it clear that Jesus will baptize people with the Holy Spirit. He uplifted the ministry of Jesus over his, knowing that his disciples will follow Jesus. He accepted that as a duty and his purpose given from above.
Important question to think about- how can we be more like John the Baptist in lifting up Jesus and being clear about what our task is in pointing everyone to Jesus second coming.
